In today's industrial automation systems, memory programmable controls (PLC) play a central role. They connect measuring instruments and control links to the process via conventional wiring. However, a PLC is not fully decoupled from the industrial environment, so that overvoltage peaks and transition flows can influence their function. Such interfaces are provided by the relay and optocoppler series of ABB. They allow a wide-ranging adjustment of the voltage (from 5 to 250 V) and current (from 0.01 to 8 A) and a high isolation between input and output from 2 to 4 kV. For high switching frequencies at low switching loads, transistor, MOS-FET or triac outputs can be selected.
